PE10 Summative Assessment

Well first, my attendance in class has been very good. I've never missed a day and whenever I was late (for the Japanese Hosting thing for example) I would quickly get ready for class and bring my "A game". At times I would have to sit out of class (like at the beginning of the year when my foot was hurt really badly) but I would still do my best to contribute in some way, like go on my blog and update it when I couldn't do fitness. When I'm in class I always come prepared with a gym strip, water bottle and a motivation for the day!

My fitness has changed a lot actually. From the beginning of the year, with a 8.8 on the beep test, I was able to get a 9.3 last fitness day. As well, my personal fitness has improved. For example, I used to do really bad in runs and relay stuff in grade 8 and 9. Now I can run at full sprint around the pond for the pond run. As well, I can now proudly say that running is one of my greatest physical capabilities. I think I've changed in fitness because lately I've been really concious of my fitness and trying to eat healthy. For one, I don't eat carbohydrates (like rice and pasta) as much and subsitute it for salad instead. As well, I've been excersizing bit by bit lately by playing badminton with my dad and being a part of the team and by walking home mostly everyday.

In class I always bring a positive dynamic and feeling. An example of this is fitness days. Whenever we do fitness in pairs or with the whole first block, I always encourage people to do their best and I always boost up my partner's morale by cheering them on by telling them things like "come on only 5 seconds left" or "you got this! You got this!" If you need any other proof, I invite you to ask Katie, Gurpreet and Amy from Mr. Vaughn's class and Janey, Rene and Simran from my class (Mr. Davis).

To me, being physically educated means to know how to take care of your body in a multitude of fun, team/friend-friendly ways. I say this because before in my P.E. experiences, I never felt that whole group dynamic/encouragement factor and I somewhat hated P.E. at that point because it seemed so... I don't know how to put it, lonely, I suppose? Almost as if all the things that you had to do in order to bring yourself to where you want to be was a lone quest. Don't get me wrong: I know fitness comes from within oneself; and in acknowledging that I think I'm ready for independance, but I think with this year, especially when I was shown the different fitness stuff that I could do with my friends, I was really uplifted. I think I'm independant because even though I like doing fitness with friends better than by myself, I recognize that all in all it boils down to me and my actions and decisions.

A grade I would like to have would be an A. I think I deserve it because I have plenty of intrinsic motivation (wanting to push myself and give myself a challenge, wanting to improve on myself) and I also have plenty of self-derived extrinsic motivation (wanting to improve my fitness, "racing my shadow" during the hill runs). I also am very supportive of people in class and I'm always prepared for the day ahead. I feel that an A is a perfect representation for this.

Some barriers that can impede on my healthy/active lifestyle is work and rest. I won't deny it, even as I speak (or rather, type) I still have lots of work to do for my English and Science classes and their provincials coming up. And I won't lie, as soon as I'm done studying for the day, I want to sleep. Over the past three weeks now; and I know it's not healthy but I'm working on it by taking naps when I can, I've been what society calls "sleep deprived". At my age (that makes me sound old, haha) I should be getting 9 hours of sleep. Lately because of school work, I've been getting 7-8 hours on a regular day. Again, I know that's not healthy, but by acknowledging it I think I'm doing pretty well, haha. This impacts my lifestyle because I know the future effects that loss of sleep can have on me. Furthermore it impacts me because when I have free time, I'm not going to do a couple of fitness activites, I'm going to sleep. This vicious circle isn't good for me, I know, but I've been working on it.

For example, let's say I have 8 things to do throughout the week (a normal day for me). I've been setting my priorities by writing them in my planner and ranking them off according to what is more important/should be dealt with first. (I've been doing this for a while, but I've really stepped it up lately due to loss of sleep and exams.) I rank them according to how important they are and according to how long I think it'll take me. I get the fast and important things done first, and the rest is history. That way I can, theoretically, be done faster and sleep more, therefore giving me energy for the next day.

To sum it all up with a couple of sidenotes, I think this is the best year I've EVER had for my body and my fitness. From the start of the year 'till now I've lost 10-20 pounds (WOO HOO!!) and I've picked up friends and new skills that can further reduce my waist line (haha). I recognize my lapses in wellness judgement (my sleeping patterns) but I'm ready to tackle them and work on them as I pass through everyday. I'm also happy to report that I had a nap today, so I got an extra hour of sleep. (Yay!) If there was anything I learned here in PE 10, it's to (and yes, it's a cliche) never give up, cheer on others and cheer on yourself!

... I think feelings like this are what I love about PE the most. :)

Fitness

Beep test: Level 9.3
Sit and Reach: Level 3
T-Test: 11.91 sec.
Body Bridge: 62 sec.
Body Press: 20
Jump Test: 29cm
Board Touches: 8 touches/30 sec.

This, overall was my best fitness. From an 8.9 at the beginning of the year to a 9.3 by the end of it. Granted, I wasn't really feeling the love that day, but I did really well.

I was more flexible afterwards too, getting to level 3. It was really uplifting since that was the most flexible I've ever been. As well my balance is really good; 8 touches is the best I've ever gotten on the board touches.

The body bridge and body press was the best result too. I think I did a bit better on the body bridge before, but I wasn't feeling the love that day and I still lasted at least a minute, haha. Body press, considering I "dislike" push-ups with a burning passion, I did pretty good.

The area where I did really badly was the wall jump. Normally I make at least 32-35 cm but I was only able to make 29. I think I did worse because I wasn't feeling that great that on fitness and at the same time afterwards I was a bit dizzy/weird.

Overall I think this fitness was really good. I improved on most things and I'm happy for that.

My Progress So Far...

In PE I personally think I deserve an A.

I always bring my best to class,
meaning that I always try, do and act the best when we do activities,
and I always try to bring in a positive attitude in the class.

Fitness wise,
I've improved a lot lately.
On the first day of beep tests,
I got a 6.9 then I moved up dramatically to an 8.2
and I've kept things other things either consistent
or have improved on them.

As well, I have a healthy lifestyle
since I do fitness outside of school hours
(badminton team, occasional meet-ups with friends on Fridays)
and I try to make time to do other things.

So, all in all, I think I deserve an A.

I hope this was a good enough post!
See you tomorrow!

Fitness Test #2

I did really well on my Fitness Test!
I was able to get to a 8.2 from a 6.9 on the beep test
and I was able to improve on some of the other things.

For example, on for the plank test, I was able to hold out for a minute and 10 seconds,
jump 45 metres on the jump test,
and maintain a few things.

My T-Test didn't go so well,
but I think that's because my shoes were slipping while I was doing it.

Zumba and Hip Hop

So this week, we're doing dance.
I really enjoy this week since it's really fun and a nice change of pace.

Yesterday, we did Zumba.
It was really fun to do since I was surrounded by
friends who all laughed and danced together.
We all giggled at the Latino-like moves
and cheered whenever we finished a song.

Today we did Hip Hop.
I really have to hand it to Parmdeep and Dominique
(it's so weird for me to type that...)
they really did a good job teaching!
I enjoyed the choreography a lot,
and I was glad that I was able to get most of the steps!

I'm really looking forward to line dancing and bhagra.

I kinda wish we had ball room dancing or swing dancing though...
But, oh well.

Can't wait for the rest of the week!

Fitness - Community Run

Fitness on Friday was a new experience for me.

For one, it was the first time I've ever done the community run,
and it was a real challenge for me.

I got the time of about 22:42 while running the last bit with Amy Dickson from Mr. Vaughn's class,
and I'm happy at that result,
(of course, I want to improve)
but I wish I had taken less breaks while running.
I think I can improve on this by going at a continuous pace that works for me
instead of running, stopping, then running a bit harder trying to "make up for lost time"
only to get tired again.

The bad news is that once I got back to the school, I got pelted in the face with a rogue volleyball.
Good news is that now I know how to improve my community run skills!

Interm Report

A few note worthy changes in fitness is my beep test result.
On our first beep test, I scored a 6.9, a new personal record!

In class though, I believe that I'm a good, positive role model in class.
I think this because in class I really encourage people to have fun while we do lots of activities,
for example, today, in the beep test I was encouraging people to try their best by giving them high fives
and clapping and cheering for them.

I think the reason I'm like this is because I like to challenge myself and others in PE class
while making everything fun at the same time.

Outside of school, I do lots of extracurricular activities.
Like on every Friday, Rene, a few friends and I try to do an hour of activities after school.
(Mr. Davis, I'm sure you've seen me or Rene ask to use the small gym, yeah?)
As well, lately I've been trying out for the Badminton Team,
which is another hour and a half of some kind of physical activity.
In that way, I'm really committed to my health.

Lately, my family and I have been eating healthily as well.
Lately we've been eating lots of fruits and vegetables.
Just yesterday, we had lots of vegetables along with our sinigang, a Filipino soup.

Up unti the past couple of weeks, I've had injuries.
However, I've turned that injury to my foot into a chance to reflect on how to prevent it.

I think next time I'm gonna use better shoes, ha ha!
But while I was hurt, I was making sure to rest it and to rub/apply ice to it.

PE is very fun for me!
I enjoy being with friends and moving around.
I always try my best to be an active participant and/or volunteer for PE,
especially when I'm doing something fun!
E.g. Volleyball = me setting up nets/teams

A barrier that I have though is my foot.
I'm really concious of it and I really don't want to become injured again.
However, it doesn't really concern me so much that it puts a reason for me not to play/do my best in PE.

A personal goal of mine is to lose weight and to find ways to push myself even further than I already am.

Therefore, all in all, I think I should get a G.
P.S. When should I update my blog? Every week? Every fitness day?

The Past 3 Days of PE

On Friday I thought I was okay.
We did the pond run, and I thought it was a lot of fun.
(Ha ha, that rhymes)
But, I really enjoyed it. I was able to run for all of those 1 minute intervals.

After school, my friends and I hung around in the field and parking lot to play kickball and basketball.
We stayed for about an hour and a half, which is good since it's
extra fitness and something that we could add into our GTP and this award we're trying to get.

During the weekend though, it was tough.
My left foot started to become sore at its base...

When Monday rolled around, it started to hurt when I walked.
I still played with the reaction balls and 4-corner dodgeball with my friends though.
My foot didn't seem to hurt that much as I was playing so I continued.
(I did pretty well too!)

But now, today, it really hurts.
I can't even walk without it throbbing or hurting.
So, right now I'm on my blog while I could be doing something fun...
Is it obvious that I'm sad right now?
'Cause I am. XD

This isn't the first time it happened though.
When I was in summer camp last year, the same thing happened to my foot.
My left foot, that is.
Same spot, same sore feeling, same struggle walking.
Same shoes too.

My parents and I thought it was because of the shoes,
but we also had to take into account that the camp ground I was doing activities in wasn't
evenly settled either. (Lots of gravel, small, sharp rocks, and uneven little hills)
And the shoes I use are for running.
So, I thought they'd be okay for PE.

... Boy was I wrong.

Thankfully my parents and I are going to go to a shoe store soon
to get new and appropriate shoes for my flat footed curse. XD

Wish me luck, yeah?

1st Fitness Test Results

Okay, so...
Not the best fitness test I've had in a while... XD
But at the same time I improved a lot!

Only 54 seconds in the body bridge, (used to get a minute and a little bit...)
12.1 seconds in the T-Test (I used to get 9 seconds! What happened?! D: )
and 28 in distance for the jump test (I used to get a bit better)...

But again, I still improved!

I stayed at a level 1 in the flexibility test, (not good, but better then 0, yeah?)
and I was able to do 6 push ups too!
(Hey, I know 6 isn't a lot, but for a kid who hasn't done fitness for a year, that's pretty good!
... In my opinion anyways.)

And now for the grand finale...
6.9 on the beep test!! Woo hoo!!
I used to only get to level 5... And barely!
But now I got 6.9!

Granted... I'm really sore and can hardly move,
but, hey! I'm improving!

I think I'm going to work on my planks, push-ups and speed though...

My Goals

In this PE class, I really hope to have fun with new people and to improve on my own physical fitness.
I look forward to this new semester and this new class,
and the experiences and lessons I'm going to have here.

I also look forward to the summer weather that will come our way in the long awaited summer months!
